There are a lot of trans friendly nightlife options in Charlotte. It just depends on whether you want to meet trans men, women, or both. In this article, I’ll cover the best places to meet trans men and women in Charlotte. Whether you prefer meeting online or in person, this city has a lot to offer.

Provider Education

Are you a medical or mental health professional interested in becoming a PATH provider? To address this, I took it upon myself to create city guides specifically tailored to meeting trans people. Yet,  finding an app that “works” is a lot about personal preference. Charlotte has a lot going on for trans individuals, but still, I couldn’t find a solid social media group for the community. The Scorpio Lounge and Oleen’s opened in 1968 and became two mainstays.

Providing Access to Trans Healthcare (PATH)

Two psychiatrists were quoted in the article, debating whether homosexuality is the way people are born or if it’s acquired or learned behavior. Both are quoted anonymously, hinting at the sensitivity of the subject in the late 1950s — a time well within living memory. The Xpression Space  is a physical wardrobe housed in the Transcend Program Suite at 5855 Executive Center Drive, Suite 200. This is an affirming space for trans and gender diverse folx to explore their gender expression in full privacy and comfort. The purpose of this website is to provide basic information, policies and support resources for trans students on UNC Charlotte's campus.

Transit Services Advisory Committee (TSAC)

I’ve personally had success using OkCupid and have found my fair share of dates there and also made some great connections with other trans people. I can confirm that it’s a great way to meet trans individuals and there are a variety of roles to sign up for, even something as simple as setup/cleanup shifts. It’s one of the most popular LGBT+ bars in the city and while the majority of its customers are gay men, finding TGs isn’t uncommon.

CATS Hosts Public Meeting for Website

The North Carolina General Assembly last week overrode Gov. Roy Cooper’s veto of a trio of bills. One bans puberty blockers, gender surgery and other transition-related health care for minors. One forbids transgender women and girls from playing on female sports teams from middle school through college. And one requires schools to notify parents if their child wants to start using a different name or pronoun.

Petra’s Bar – Located at 1919 Commonwealth Ave, started off as a gay bar but slowly, it has also become a popular spot among cis folks. The owners don’t care whether you’re trans, gay straight, bi, or anything else. Hattie’s Tap & Tavern – Located at The Plaza, known as a lesbian bar, but it’s a welcoming spot for all queer folks, especially trans women.

Some trans people seek medical and/or legal means to change their assigned birth sex or gender and some may simply identify or present themselves differently than their assigned birth sex or gender. UNC Charlotte utilizes the term "trans" as an umbrella and inclusive term for those that transgress or transition between gender norms. This could include, but is not limited to, those who identify as transgender, transexual, transvestite, individuals with an intersex condition, genderqueer or non-binary individuals.

I am only thankful and I mean so thankful that this place exists and that the world gives us in the LGBT community a chance to demonstrate that we are equals and have something to offer this world that is Paramount to the success of humanity. No one should face barriers to getting the healthcare they need. We are also proud to report that provider participation has grown from our initial group of 13 providers to have included meeting participation to an average of 100 providers annually.

It’s big enough to hold events but there were none the night I visited. You have to be a bit more consistent with your efforts by regularly socializing with trans people. We provide clothing, shoes, accessories, makeup, life items (i.e., menstruation items, bath products, etc.) and specialty items (such as binders and gaffs) free of charge.
